Wellington region maintenance programme

Information about roadworks in the Wellington-Kāpiti region

Well maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe.  While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know that roadworks can be inconvenient.  Thanks for your patience and understanding while we do this important work.

Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits.  If you’re driving around the Wellington region, roadworks on the state highway network may affect your travel plans.

Below is a quick outline of the major works planned for the coming week from Sunday 2013 November 2016 .  We’ll keep you posted on future works and have regular updates on local radio stations.stations. 

State Highway 1

Northbound lane closures through the tunnel with diversions in place.

Sewer works

Sunday to Wednesday night

Wellington Road
From Wellington Road to Kilbirnie Crescent, altered lane layout and temporary speed limit for UFB installation works.

UFB installation work

Sunday to Thursday night

Paekakariki
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go to allow crews to repair pot holes in the road surface.

Pot hole repairs

Tuesday to Wednesday night

Terrace off ramp
Lane closure to allow crews to replace a sewer line.

Sewer repairs

Thursday

Pukerua Bay
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go for resurfacing works.  Allow extra time for your journey.

Resurfacing

Monday to Thursday night

State Highway 2

Kaitoke
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go while crews install an electronic sign board by Dews Construction yard.

Greytown - fruitstalls
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go early Monday while crews chip seal the highway just north of Greytown. Following that, traffic follows lanes marked by cones.

Second coat seal chip sealing

State Highway 58

Haywards/Pauatahanui
Multiple work sites to clear drains, debris and slips from last week’s flooding.  Please stick to the temporary speed limit and take extra care driving through work sites.

Flood repair works

Monday to Friday

NOTE: If bad weather should strike, work will be postponed to the next suitable night.

Highway post-flood clean-up

Maintenance works are focused on repairs and clearing the highways after Tuesday’s flooding and slips. For road status information, visit  www.tfw.govt.nz .

Please plan your journey to allow for delays on the roads while this essential work is done.

Paving projects are cancelled.

Mt Victoria Tunnel lane closure: The northbound lane in Mt Victoria Tunnel will be closed tonight and tomorrow night for work to replace a wastewater pipe near the Paterson St lights 
(Wellington Water). The southbound lane will be open.

Night time road closure for resurfacing works.  Closure scheduled for Sunday night with detour off Hawkestone/Tinakori Road. Aftercare will require lane closures on Monday and Tuesday night.

Traffic will be controlled by stop/go for resurfacing works.  A temporary speed limit will be in place.

Chipsealing

Traffic will be controlled by stop/go while crews do repair work (mill and fills) on small sections of the road surface near Mt Cecil Road.
